SEC morning links

1. Arkansas is apparently pleased with the direction Bret Bielema has the program going -- as well it should be. The school announced over the weekend that it was adding two years to his contract and raising his annual total compensation to $4.25 million. The Razorbacks improved substantially in Bielema’s second season, finishing at 7-6 after hammering Texas 31-7 in the Advocare V100 Texas Bowl. A Fansided.com writer opined that Arkansas was rewarding mediocrity by adding to Bielema’s deal. After all, the Razorbacks won just two SEC games after going winless in league play a season earlier. But they also won three of their last four games, including shutouts of LSU and Ole Miss. For what it’s worth, ESPN Stats & Information ranks Arkansas No. 10 in its preseason Football Power Index. If the Hogs live up to that billing, Bielema will clearly have earned the raise and extension.

2. It looks like the CeCe Jefferson saga is nearing a conclusion. The coveted defensive end tweeted Saturday that his father Leo and Florida defensive coordinator Geoff Collins had a long conversation and that Leo will allow his son to send in his signed letter of intent to Florida after all. You might recall that Jefferson committed to Florida on live TV last Wednesday, but he never faxed his LOI and his father told ESPN that “he wants time to think about [his decision].” If Jefferson -- the No. 9 overall prospect on the ESPN 300 -- does in fact join the Gators’ class, they’ll get an instant-impact candidate on the defensive line.

3. Les Miles already filled one opening on his coaching staff this offseason when Kevin Steele replaced John Chavis as defensive coordinator. Now Miles is in the market for a new receivers coach after Adam Henry departed to take a job with the San Francisco 49ers. Henry previously worked in the Bay Area as an assistant with the Oakland Raiders. LSU’s SB Nation site “And the Valley Shook” reacted to the news by speculating on some possible candidates to replace Henry on the Tigers’ staff.
