Practice Report: Only Jason Jones misses practice

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Jim Caldwell wouldn't go into specifics Thursday about what, exactly, is keeping Detroit Lions defensive lineman Jason Jones away from the team other than he is out dealing with a "family matter."

Jones missed practice Wednesday. He did so again Thursday. His status for Sunday against the New England Patriots is still unknown.

"He's taking care of things," Caldwell said. "And he'll be back shortly."

Caldwell said the issue is a "personal family issue" for Jones. The Southfield, Michigan, native started every game this season for the Lions and has made 12 tackles along with two sacks.

If he is unable to play, the Lions would likely use a combination of Devin Taylor and Darryl Tapp in his place. If this happened, it could also mean rookie Larry Webster would have a rare Sunday activation for the Lions.

Other than Jones, the rest of Detroit's players were back at practice Thursday -- including receiver Calvin Johnson and running back Joique Bell. Both appear on track to play against the Patriots on Sunday.
