2014 WNBA Draft: Most-Watched Ever on ESPN2

Second-Most Watched Draft on ESPN/ESPN2

The 2014 WNBA Draft Presented by State Farm – held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Monday, April 14 – averaged 413,000 viewers (P2+) on ESPN2, making it the most-watched WNBA Draft on the network, according to Nielsen. Viewership was up nine percent from last year’s audience of 379,000. The telecast is also the second-most viewed WNBA Draft ever on ESPN/ESPN2 – 14 telecasts dating back to 2001 (2004 on ESPN averaged 601,000 viewers).

The primetime telecast saw Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike as the No. 1 overall pick by the Connecticut Sun. The top metered markets for the 2014 WNBA Draft include: Hartford-New Haven (1.9 rating); Lexington (1.7); Las Vegas (1.0); Nashville (0.9) and Albuquerque (0.8).

A part of the Internal Communications team at ESPN, I began with the network in 2010 as part of the College Sports PR team. Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
