Sooners CB Strait wins Nagurski award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Oklahoma cornerback Derrick Strait won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy on Monday as the top defensive college football player of the year.

Strait, a senior, edged Sooners tackle Tommie Harris, UCLA end
Dave Ball, LSU tackle Chad Lavalais and West Virginia linebacker Grant Wiley.

At 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, Strait led the Big 12 in fumbles
recovered with four and was fourth in the conference in passes
defended, with 12 breakups to go with his three interceptions.

"As a player, you always want to do better, but I feel like I
had a pretty good season," said Strait, also the Big 12 Defensive
