ESPN 100 power forward Chase Jeter made a verbal commitment to Duke on Monday night, announcing his decision live on ESPNU from the championship rounds of Adidas Nations Global 2014 in Long Beach, California.
He chose the Blue Devils over Arizona, Kansas, Oregon, UCLA and UNLV.
"I just loved the feel and the environment," Jeter said. "Cameron Indoor is a great place and a great basketball environment."
Jeter, ranked No. 13, is a highly talented and athletic 6-foot-10 big man who runs the floor very well and scores consistently on the low post with jump hooks. He continues to improve at a rapid rate.
Jeter averaged nearly 15 points and more than 10 rebounds and three blocks per game during his junior season at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas while playing next to another five-star big man, Stephen Zimmerman.
While Duke also was actively recruiting Zimmerman and Ivan Rabb among other post prospects in the 2015 class, coach Mike Krzyzewski made Jeter his top priority, offering him a scholarship last November. Krzyzewski had hosted Jeter for an official visit in early March for Duke's game against North Carolina. Krzyzewski also traveled to Las Vegas a few weeks after that to see Jeter again.
This summer, the Duke staff continued to make Jeter its top priority, following him throughout the entire evaluation period beginning with the Adidas Unrivaled Camp in Chicago and culminating with his last game of the period at the finals of the Adidas Super 64 in Las Vegas. Jeter put up 24 points and 17 rebounds in a loss to Indiana Elite.
Now, Jeter joins 6-5 sharp-shooting swingman Luke Kennard to become the second five-star prospect to commit to Duke in 2015 as the Blue Devils look to follow up on a 2014 class that was both the top-ranked group in the country and one of Krzyzewski's best in recent years.
With Jeter and Kennard now on board, Duke will zero in on Brandon Ingram, a local 6-8 small forward from North Carolina who is expected to visit officially later this week.
After this season, Duke graduates starting guard Quinn Cook. It could also lose incoming freshman big man Jahlil Okafor, who is widely expected to be one-and-done. Rasheed Sulaimon and Tyus Jones could also explore early jumps to the NBA.
