Prediction: Lions will beat Giants

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions added offensive pieces in the offseason and still have a level of mystery as to how they will really scheme, both on offense and defense. That element of surprise combined with an increased talent level on offense and defense should be enough to overtake the Giants and their shaky offensive line.

Matthew Stafford could struggle with an improved New York secondary, but he has more options now with receiver Golden Tate and tight end Eric Ebron to diversify where he’ll throw the ball. Stafford should be able to take advantage of the multiple places the Lions plan on putting Calvin Johnson as well. That, combined with a raucous Ford Field crowd, should be enough to get Detroit off to a positive start.

My prediction: Lions 31, Giants 24.
