John Kuhn takes 'Honor Flight' while status with Packers still in limbo

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Even if John Kuhn’s time with the Green Bay Packers is over -- and if it is, that hasn’t been communicated to Kuhn’s camp -- the Pro Bowl fullback isn’t done giving back to those in the community.

On Monday, Kuhn took off on a flight from Central Wisconsin Airport to Washington, D.C., with a group of military veterans.

The trip was part of the Never Forgotten Honor Flight program.

The group included 92 veterans of Vietnam and six Korean War veterans. They were scheduled to visit the Korean, Vietnam, World War II and Iwo Jima memorials along with Arlington National Cemetery.

Kuhn’s status with the Packers is in limbo. Although there was a report last week from WTMJ radio in Milwaukee that the Packers were “moving on” from Kuhn, a source in Kuhn’s camp told ESPN.com at the time that if that’s the case, it was news to them. The source reiterated Monday that nothing had changed.

A second source told said there is still some sentiment within the organization to re-sign the 33-year-old.

Kuhn -- or "Kuuuuuuuuhn" as he's greeted by fans when he takes the field or touches the ballĀ -- is one of the most popular players in recent Packers history. He has helped block for four 1,000-yard rushing seasons -- Ryan Grant (2008 and 2009) and Eddie Lacy (2013 and 2014) -- during his nine years in Green Bay. His rushing opportunities have often come in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Kuhn has 19 career rushing touchdowns, including the playoffs.

Last season, Kuhn’s role actually increased late in the year. Although he appeared on only 28 percent of the offensive snaps, he played 222 of his 362 total snaps over the last six games (including playoffs), when coach Mike McCarthy made a bigger commitment to the running game.
