The reason behind Cornelius Lucas' Twitter handle -- Larry Lovestein

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Twitter handles have become a part of the culture. Fight to have your name as your handle. Or a combination of your name and your company or your job.

Or your name and your number, perhaps from high school, college or the pros if you’re an athlete. Then there’s Cornelius Lucas, who has a name unlike any other.

The Detroit Lions rookie from Kansas State was listening to rapper Mac Miller one day and heard the name “Larry Lovestein,” which happens to be one of Miller's aliases, as Larry Lovestein & The Velvet Revival. So Lucas typed it into Twitter.

No one had it. And @larry_lovestein, the Twitter alias of a future NFL player, was born.

“I was just relaxing one day, listening to some music. This guy by the name of Mac Miller, he’s a rapper, he has a song where he either mentions being called Larry Lovestein or the song is named Larry Lovestein,” Lucas said. “When I heard it, I was like, that’s got a little ring to it.

“Kind of kept singing the song and decided to change my Twitter name.”

When it comes to football, Lucas often stands out. He’s 6-foot-9, 325 pounds, with massive arms and size more often seeing on a basketball court than a football field.

And he has one of the more interesting Twitter handles in the entire league -- certainly the most interesting one in the Lions locker room.

“It’s just smooth, you know,” Lucas said. “Just smooth. It makes people remember it.”
