DeAndre Levy again questioning NFL on CTE research funding

The NFL has been under scrutiny for how it has handled brain injuries, concussions and CTE over the past few years, and through the past week Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy has used his Instagram account to question the NFL about what is going on.

It started last week, with a picture of Dr. Elliot Pellman and Levy wondering why he was still employed by the league. Then, on Friday morning, he posed a new question pointed at the league.

The NFL was said to have pulled out of a Boston University brain study in December, something the league said was incorrect with spokesman Brian McCarthy saying the league did not pull funding from the study. The NFL has helped fund other brain injury studies.

Earlier this week, an NFL employee told a congressional hearing there was a link between football and CTE.

Levy has been posting questions with pictures of Zion National Park. His representatives have not responded to ESPN asking for further comment about if there is anything specific that spurred Levy’s questioning of the league.

He’s the latest player to wonder what the league has been doing regarding brain injuries. Former Lions cornerback Rashean Mathis spoke to ESPN last season about CTE, brain injuries and what the league is and is not doing about it.

More and more athletes have been donating their brains for CTE research upon their death. Mathis said he is planning to donate his brain to the study. In the past few weeks, Hall of Fame wrestler Kevin Nash told ESPN.com he has decided to donate his brain to the study as has women’s soccer player Brandi Chastain.
