SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis made it through Super Bowl 50 with a metal plate surgically implanted with 11 screws in his broken right forearm.

He finished second on the team in tackles with seven while wearing a protective cast over the arm.

Davis posted this picture of his arm without the protective cast after Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos. He made it clear in the post, “This is not about me, or how tough I am.’’

Davis said his arm, which has more than 40 stitches in it, was “fine’’ after the game.

“It’s one of those things that you go into the game and you have a game plan,’’ he said. “We executed the game plan from a body standpoint. Our trainers did an amazing job of making sure that I was ready to go and that I didn’t have any issues throughout the game.’’

Davis said prior to the playoffs that Carolina’s 15-1 regular-season record would be for nothing without a Super Bowl win. His tone changed Sunday night.

“We definitely had a successful season,’’ Davis said. “But you know, we let so many people down. It’s tough to get over that feeling.’’
