DAVIE, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins are going to London at an early crossroads of their season. They are an underachieving team and playing ugly football following back-to-back losses to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills.

Although it’s too early to deem any game in Week 4 a “must win,” the Dolphins (1-2) are well aware how important Sunday’s division game is against the New York Jets (2-1).

“I think we feel the urgency and understand that we’re at a critical point in our season,” quarterback Ryan Tannehill said. “Obviously, we haven’t performed up to par or even close to it the past two weeks. It’s a division opponent, on the road and overseas, so it’s a huge game for us not only for the fact that it’s a division game and just the way we’ve played the past two weeks, we need to come out and respond, and play up to our standards.”

How important is this game for the Dolphins?

According to ESPN Stats & Information, teams that start 1-3 only have a 15 percent chance of making the playoffs since 1990. That means there is an 85-percent chance of the Dolphins not living up to playoff expectations if they lose Sunday to the Jets.

NFL teams that are 2-2 have a 36-percent chance of making the postseason. Miami will be back in the mix with just one victory. That’s how key this game is for Miami.

The Dolphins also need to win for their confidence.

“We talked to the team about we gotta play a complete football game,” Miami coach Joe Philbin said. "We gotta play a 60-minute football game and we really haven't done that. It's easy for me to say we gotta get stops on third down, we gotta make first downs, we gotta have explosive plays, we gotta have impact plays on defense. I mean, I can sit up here and talk about it all day. The facts of the matter are ... we gotta step up and we have to make some plays and we have, as a coaching staff, we gotta to put our guys in position to make plays. It's a joint accountability.”
