ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions rookie cornerback Darius Slay had surgery Friday night to repair a torn meniscus he suffered last week in practice.

He won’t, though, be placed on injured reserve according to Detroit coach Jim Schwartz.

“He’s just classified as week-to-week, day-to-day, whatever you want to call it,” Schwartz said. “We didn’t put him on injured reserve. I think that probably answers your question without me commenting specifically on injuries.”

In other words, the Lions are hopeful he will return this season.

Schwartz also said he doesn’t believe the shoulder injury to defensive end Ziggy Ansah and the calf aggravation to Reggie Bush will be long term injuries.

“Both are sort of day-to-day type guys,” Schwartz said.

Both have also dealt with multiple injuries throughout the year. Ansah had a concussion during the preseason and also missed two games with an ankle injury in November. Bush has injured, at points this season, his thumb, his hip and his knee before hurting his calf.

The game against Philadelphia was the second game he missed this season. He missed the Lions’ win over Washington with a knee injury. Schwartz said Bush was initially planning on playing Sunday before aggravating the calf in warmups.

“He went back in to try and warm it back up,” Schwartz said. “And wasn’t able to do it.”
