Harvey poised to face batters Friday

Matt Harvey took his own batting practice on Wednesday.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Matt Harvey is due to face batters on Friday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery 16 months ago.

Harvey will throw batting practice, with hitters possibly not even swinging because it is so early in camp.

Harvey underwent Tommy John surgery on Oct. 22, 2013.

He had been throwing off a mound every other day since camp began, but the Mets plan to give him an extra day of rest before the batting-practice session. Harvey last threw off a mound on Tuesday.

Harvey spent a light workout at Mets camp on Wednesday practicing his own hitting with other pitchers.
