ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Montell Owens' first season in Detroit lasted five snaps.

That's it.

Owens, one of the running backs Detroit brought in this offseason and a special teams standout, was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury Tuesday – less than two weeks after playing in his first game after coming off the injured reserve/designated to return list.

Owens injured his knee against Chicago in Week 10 after two offensive plays and three special teams snaps. He didn't play last week and then had his season end. Owens declined to answer questions about whether or not he'll need surgery -- instead saying Detroit coach Jim Schwartz will address Owens' injury Wednesday.

“Things happen, you know,” “Personally, nobody wants to get put on IR but obviously that's what happened. "I'll still be around. Still be as best a teammate as I can be and rooting these guys on.

“I'm still here, just in a different capacity.”

Owens said he didn't think this would be the end result when he injured the knee against the Bears.

His season-ending injury does lead to an obvious question asked in the beginning of the season, when Detroit chose to give him its sole designated to return injured reserve slot over tight end Michael Williams -- or to save it in case another injury came up.

Of course, the Lions couldn't have predicted some of the other injuries they had -- notably Nate Burleson's broken forearm -- but now Owens' season is over before it ever really started.
