          Pac-12 weekend recruiting wrap: Cougars, Sun Devils add commits

          While Stanford and USC battled it out for the Pac-12 title, the rest of the conference’s coaching staffs were able to put together a weekend focused fully on recruiting. With fewer than two months until signing day and the dead period rapidly approaching, Pac-12 programs are working on their finishing kick for the 2016 recruiting class.

          Biggest commitment: Arizona State hasn’t been shy about mining the junior college ranks over the years. The Sun Devils brought in 10 juco signees in the 2013 class, including wide receiver Jaelen Strong and cornerback Damarious Randall. In the 2014 class, the Sun Devils were burned a bit when big-time junior college signees Dalvon Stuckey and Darrius Caldwell were not admitted to Arizona State. But the Sun Devils are doing well in the juco ranks with the 2016 class, as cornerback Maurice Chandler announced his commitment to Arizona State on Monday.

          Chandler is junior college commitment No. 6 for the Sun Devils, as the nation’s No. 21 juco prospect gives head coach Todd Graham the nation’s No. 2 and 3 juco cornerbacks -- along with J’Marcus Rhodes -- to go along with the nation’s No. 2 and 3 juco defensive ends, Dougladson Subtyl and Christian Hill.

          Chandler, a former Oklahoma commit, announced his decision between Arizona State and Nebraska.

          Biggest offer: Cal extended a few offers over the weekend, including one to dual-threat quarterback Victor Viramontes. The former Michigan commit announced his decommitment from the Wolverines shortly before announcing his offer from Cal. He’s an interesting prospect in that, at 6-foot, 216-pounds, Viramontes has the athleticism to play a number of positions but could also be a tremendous running threat as a quarterback. If the Golden Bears are able to reel in Viramontes and stick him under center, it’d be very different look than the strong-armed pocket presence of Jared Goff.

          Cal also extended an offer to junior college cornerback Marloshawn Franklin, who could see his recruitment pick up quickly, as Arizona, Colorado and Nebraska are also looking seriously at the defender.

          Most important visitor: It was no surprise to see Washington State spring out to a great start on the offensive side of the ball with the 2016 recruiting class, as the Cougars had four wide receivers committed before July 2. But the Cougars needed to continue adding bodies along the defensive line and grabbed a commitment from Lyric Bartley during his official visit over the weekend.
