2016 Class rankings expand to top 40

A combination of commitments, updated player rankings and an expansion of the class rankings have resulted in a tremendous amount of change. While defending national champion Ohio State remains at No. 1, a combination of factors helped Mississippi rise to No. 5, as it continued to strengthen the depth of its class with a commitment from three-star ILB Donta Evans, and previous commit Shea Patterson received a bump in the ESPN 300, moving to the No. 2 QB-DT.

Tennessee made a big move with No. 5 QB-DT Jarrett Guarantano, receiving a bump in the player rankings. The Vols also landed a pair of commitments recently, including ESPN 300 RB Carlin Fils-Aime, a quick runner who is capable of being a versatile playmaker.

Two other SEC schools -- South Carolina and Mississippi State -- debut in the expanded rankings. Each recently landed commitments from ESPN 300 defensive prospects, with the Gamecocks adding promising athletic DE Jordan Smith and the Bulldogs picking up big, physical top-five ILB Erroll Thompson. The SEC leads the way with the most ranked teams, including three teams within the top five. The Big Ten has eight, while the ACC and Pac-12 each have seven.
