K Eddy Pineiro, who made 77-yard FG in practice, commits to Florida

The Gators hope they have found the answer to their kicking woes, after the No. 1-rated kicker in the country, Eddy Pineiro, verbally committed to Florida in a news conference Tuesday night.

Pineiro attends ASA College, a junior college in North Miami Beach (Florida), and is widely known for making a 77-yard field goal in practice. Video of the kick made the rounds on social media and has made Pineiro an Internet sensation.

Pineiro chose Florida over Alabama, which he had been committed to up until Monday night, and Miami.

Florida ranked last in the SEC in field goal kicking. As a team, the Gators made only seven of 17 field goal attempts in 2015. Junior Austin Hardin went 5-of-14 on the season and missed or had blocked several critical field goals in losses to LSU, FSU and Alabama.

Pineiro will be a junior in the classroom but chose not to play football at ASA and will have four years of on-field eligibility remaining when he enrolls at Florida in January.

Following Pineiro's announcement, coach Jim McElwain posted his familiar tweet that accompanies every Gator commitment.
