Reports: Stephanie White to take over Vandy program after Fever season

Stephanie White will be leaving the WNBA to take over as Vanderbilt's new women's basketball coach, but only after the Indiana Fever's season is over, according to multiple reports.

White led the Fever to the WNBA Finals last year in her first season as head coach. Indiana fell to Minnesota in five games.

Vanderbilt also has hired alum Carolyn Peck as associate head coach, the Nashville Tennessean reports.

Peck was head coach at Purdue when White, as a senior guard, helped lead the Boilermakers to the 1999 NCAA championship. Peck also has head-coaching experience at Florida and in the WNBA, and she most recently worked as a women's basketball analyst for ESPN. Peck, a Tennessee native, played basketball at Vanderbilt from 1985 to '88.

Peck should be able to start right away with the Commodores while White finishes the season with the Fever. Anne Donovan had a similar arrangement with the New York Liberty in 2010 before taking over at Seton Hall after the WNBA season ended.

White replaces Melanie Balcomb, who was 310-149 in 14 seasons at Vanderbilt. The Commodores missed the NCAA tournament the past two seasons.
