Pitt OT Jaryd Jones-Smith to miss season with knee injury

College Football, Pittsburgh Panthers

Pittsburgh offensive tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith will miss the upcoming season with a right knee injury, the school said in a statement Thursday.

Jones-Smith, a projected starter at right tackle, got hurt during an offseason conditioning session. The sophomore played in 13 games last year, with three starts.

"We are incredibly disappointed for Jaryd," Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said in a statement. "Our entire team will rally behind him as he works to overcome this challenge. Jaryd is a great young man and a tough competitor. Even though he is sidelined this year, he is going to remain an important member of our team this fall."

Aaron Reese, who has played in one career game, was listed as the backup at right tackle on the post-spring depth chart. The Panthers have some depth on the interior of their line but not as much at tackle, so they could potentially shift players around once fall practice opens Aug. 10.
