Early look at 2016 skill-position situations for each SEC program

As we continue our early look at each position group in the SEC, we turn our attention to the offensive skill positions. This includes running backs, wide receivers and tight ends.

We know the SEC has some work to do in the quarterback department, but playmakers are not in short supply in this league.

Alabama: Heisman-winning running back Derrick Henry is probably out, but top high school running backs Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris are primed to replace his production. Calvin Ridley (89 catches, 1,045 yards, seven touchdowns) proved to be one of the nation's best deep-threat receivers during the second half of the 2015 season, and he'll get plenty of help from a solid cast that includes ArDarius Stewart, Cam Sims and Robert Foster. Getting tight end O.J. Howard to come back would be huge for this group.

Arkansas: Losing tight end Hunter Henry hurts, but juniors Drew Morgan, a breakout player in 2015, and junior-college transfer Dominique Reed bring their 1,378 combined yards and 16 combined touchdowns back in 2016. Athletic Jeremy Sprinkle should step right in at tight end and the Hogs will get top receiver Keon Hatcher back from a foot injury that cost him most of his season. Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams are both gone, but Kody Walker (394 yards, six touchdowns) and Rawleigh Williams (254 yards, one touchdown) will be back.

Auburn: The Tigers lost a good chunk of receiver talent, especially with Ricardo Louis gone. Marcus Davis returns with 30 catches, but just 181 yards and one touchdown. Tony Stevens and Jason Smith totaled nearly 400 receiving yards. No. 1 receiver prospect Kyle Davis should really boost this position. Running back is still loaded with Peyton Barber (1,017 yards, 13 touchdowns), Jovon Robinson (639) and Roc Thomas (261) returning. Kerryon Johnson has big-play potential.

Florida: Losing RB Kelvin Taylor, WR Demarcus Robinson and TE Jake McGee take some key pieces away. The good news is that star freshman Antonio Callaway (678 yards, four touchdowns) is back with TE DeAndre Goolsby (277). The staff might have to rely heavily on a group of freshmen at receiver, including early enrollees Josh Hammond, Freddie Swain and No. 6 juco WR Dre Massey. Freshmen Jordan Cronkrite and Jordan Scarlett will get competition from No. 1 juco RB Mark Thompson and McArthur Burnett, who are both on campus.

Georgia: Getting Nick Chubb back and healthy will be major. The sophomore has 2,294 career rushing yards. Sony Michel and his 1,161 rushing yards from 2015 are back, as are all-purpose players Terry Godwin -- who could be the Bulldogs' leading receiver in 2016 --and Isaiah McKenzie. Tight end Jeb Blazevich and veteran receiver Reggie Davis must have bigger roles this fall. The Dawgs should get immediate help from No. 1 tight end prospect Isaac Nauta and No. 3 JUCO WR Javon Wims. Cavin Ridley, the younger brother of Alabama's Calvin Ridley, is on the way too.

Kentucky: Top three receivers Dorian Baker (608 yards, three touchdowns), Garrett Johnson (694, two) and Jeff Badet (430, two) are all back. So is freshman tight end C.J. Conrad, who was fifth on the team with 15 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. Leading rusher Stanley "Boom" Williams comes back with 855 yards from last season. So does Jojo Kemp, who rushed for 555 yards in 2015.

LSU: Most importantly, Leonard Fournette returns. He rushed for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns. He'll continue to get help from backups Derrius Guice (436) and Darrel Williams (296). Sophomore Malachi Dupre led the team with 45 catches and 698 yards and six touchdowns, and deep threat Travin Dural returns with 533 yards and three touchdowns. John Diarse is transferring to TCU, but LSU still will have all other reserves back: Trey Quinn, Tyron Johnson, D.J. Chark and Jazz Ferguson. Four receivers are committed, including ESPN 300 guys Stephen Sullivan and Dee Anderson, who are early enrollees.

Mississippi State: With De'Runnya Wilson heading to the NFL, Fred Ross, who led the team with 88 catches and 1,007 yards, is cemented as the No. 1 receiver. Fred Brown is next in line with 412 yards. Donald Gray is back (18.4 yards per catch) and the 6-foot-4 Kareem Vance Jr. hopes to contribute. Sophomore Gabe Myles also caught two touchdowns last season. At running back, the Bulldogs return Brandon Holloway, Ashton Shumpert and Aeris Williams, who all combined for 847 yards and four touchdowns.

Missouri: Leading receivers J'Mon Moore and Nate Brown are back (676 combined yards), and so is tight end Sean Culkin (139). Once again, this unit is relatively inexperienced, as youngsters like Cam Hilton and Emanuel Hall will have to step up. With Russell Hansbrough gone, Ish Witter (518 yards) will be the bell-cow back, but he'll get help from Chase Abbington. No. 2 juco RB Natereace Strong will have to come in and help early, too.

Ole Miss: Losing Laquon Treadwell certainly hurts, but No. 2 receiver Quincy Adeboyejo (604 yards, seven touchdowns) is back, along with Damore'ea Stringfellow and Markell Pack, who combined to catch 67 passes for 883 yards and eight touchdowns. Athletic tight end Evan Engram (464) is also back. Former cornerback Derrick Jones returns and Ole Miss welcomes ESPN 300 receivers DeKaylin Metcalf and Octavious Cooley. Jaylen Walton is gone, so Jordan Wilkins and Akeem Judd will battle for the top spot. Eugene Brazley should also get reps.

South Carolina: Top offensive weapons Pharoh Cooper, Brandon Wilds and Jerell Adams are gone, leaving Deebo Samuel as the only returning receiver with double-digit receptions and David Williams as the top running back (299 yards). Three receivers are currently committed, including four-star Bryan Edwards, who is already on campus. Hayden Hurst and D.J. Neal both caught eight passes last year.

Tennessee: Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara combined for 1,986 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. Incoming freshman Carlin Fils-Aime could help out, too. Josh Smith (307 yards), Josh Malone (405) and tight end Ethan Wolf (301) are back. And Marquez North should bounce back from an injury-plagued 2015 season. No. 7 juco WR Jeff George could contribute as well.

Texas A&M: Top-five receivers Christian Kirk (1,009 yards), Josh Reynolds (907), Ricky Seals-Jones (560), Speedy Noil (226) and Damion Ratley (200) are all back. James White (196 yards) is Texas A&M's top returning rusher. Oklahoma transfer Keith Ford is eligible and Kendall Bussey will be called upon to help at running back.

Vanderbilt: Breakout sophomore Trent Sherfield (659 yards, three touchdowns) is back, and he hopes to get help from C.J. Duncan, who is coming back from a season-ending leg injury. Fellow sophomore Caleb Scott returns 339 yards and two touchdowns, and Latevius Rayford could be a breakout candidate. Ralph Webb (1,152 rushing yards) is back and Darrius Sims, who also played receiver, should help, along with Dallas Rivers.
