Left tackle David Bakhtiari likely a game-time decision for Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Three hours before last Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Minnesota Vikings, David Bakhtiari went through a workout on Lambeau Field that lasted no more than five minutes. Ninety minutes later, the Green Bay Packers declared their starting left tackle inactive for a second straight game.

The routine likely will be the same this Sunday at FedEx Field in the hours before the NFC wild-card playoff game against Washington. The Packers are hopeful for a different result.

“We’ll see come game day,” Bakhtiari said Friday.

Just like last week, Bakhtiari was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report. Although the Packers did not practice Friday, they are required by the NFL to estimate practice-participation levels. They categorized Bakhtiari as limited.

Bakhtiari’s status could be updated on Saturday after the short workout that will take place before the Packers leave for Washington in the afternoon.

“He’s projected to do some work,” McCarthy said of Saturday’s practice. “I’ll have a better answer [afterward].”

Still, it’s more likely to be a game-time decision.

The Packers won't play left guard Josh Sitton at left tackle. That was a one-game experiment that did not work as well as they had hoped. If Bakhtiari can't play, they could go with Don Barclay or JC Tretter at left tackle. Or they could move right tackle Bryan Bulaga to the left side and play either Barclay or Tretter at Bulaga's usual spot.

Cornerback Sam Shields appears likely to miss his fourth straight game because of a concussion. He was listed as doubtful.
