Packers, Seahawks on collision course for NFC title game rematch

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- If the season ended today, the Green Bay Packers would host the Seattle Seahawks in an NFC wild-card playoff game at Lambeau Field.

And the way the Seahawks have been playing, the Packers might be the underdogs.

Yes, the Packers are the NFC North leaders, which is why they would host a playoff game. And, sure, their 8-4 record is better the Seattle’s 7-5 mark, which is good enough for second-place in the NFC West.

But according to the latest ESPN NFL Power Rankings, the Seahawks are the better team. The voters have the Seahawks at No. 6 overall, one spot ahead of the Packers.

The top of the rankings has an NFC feel:

  • 1. Panthers (12-0)

  • 2. Cardinals (10-2)

  • 3. Bengals (10-2)

  • 4. Broncos (10-2)

  • 5. Patriots (10-2)

  • 6. Seahawks (7-5)

  • 7. Packers (8-4)

It shouldn’t come as a major surprise that the Seahawks rank higher given that they have won five of their last six games and seven of their last 10 since their Week 2 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field, and the Packers have lost four of their last six. Seattle’s only loss since mid-October came against the NFC West-leading Cardinals.

A Packers-Seahawks wild-card game would be the third meeting between the two teams in less than a year, and who wouldn’t be intrigued by an NFC Championship Game rematch to start the postseason?
