College Football, Southern Jaguars, Georgia Bulldogs

Southern wide receiver Devon Gales was taken off the field on a stretcher after suffering a spinal injury late in the third quarter of Saturday's game against Georgia at Sanford Stadium.

Gales was taken to Athens Regional hospital, where he underwent a CT scan and will remain until further notice, according to a statement released by the school. Results of the CT scan were not immediately known.

Assistant athletic director Trayvean Scott told ESPN's Laura Rutledge that Gales was moving his hands and in good spirits.

A third-year sophomore, Gales was injured on a collision while blocking on a kickoff return when he led with his head and fell to the ground. After receiving medical attention on the field for several minutes, he was immobilized, placed on a stretcher and carted off the field.

The entire Southern team went to the hospital after the game, which Georgia won 48-6. The Bulldogs showed their support for Gales on their Twitter account.
