Kenny Wallace to retire from NASCAR racing after Aug. 1 Xfinity event

Kenny Wallace, the youngest brother of the Wallace racing family, will retire from NASCAR after the Xfinity Series race Aug. 1 at Iowa Speedway.

Wallace, who has not competed in NASCAR full time since 2011, will drive the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 car with sponsorship from U.S. Cellular in his final NASCAR race. Wallace, 51, went winless -- including three runner-up finishes -- in a 344-race Sprint Cup career and has nine wins in an Xfinity Series-record 546 career starts.

"To me, this isn't a sad moment," Wallace said in a news release. "I'm at a truly happy place in my life right now."

Wallace continues to race regularly in a dirt late model at tracks across the nation. The younger brother of former Sprint Cup drivers Mike Wallace and 1989 champion Rusty Wallace, Kenny Wallace also is an analyst for Fox Sports.

"I've had a long and successful career, and I've been able to support my family doing what I love," said Wallace, who made his first NASCAR start in 1988. "To me, it doesn't get any better than that. I'm really proud of everything that I've been able to accomplish in NASCAR."
