Central Missouri running back asks for job with Chiefs, gets contract

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Running back LaVance Taylor, like a lot of kids from the Kansas City area, grew up dreaming of playing for the Kansas City Chiefs.

So after rushing for 1,962 yards and 15 touchdowns last season at the University of Central Missouri, Taylor sent a tweet to the Chiefs on Wednesday in his search for a job.

A day later, Taylor received an answer from the Chiefs. They signed him to a contract.

The Chiefs need another running back to get through training camp after releasing Cyrus Gray and losing Keshawn Hill, at least temporarily, with a sore hamstring. Their only other running backs were Jamaal Charles, Knile Davis and Charcandrick West.

It will be interesting to see how Taylor fares in camp. He’s only 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, but he’s a versatile player. He also caught 38 passes and two touchdowns last season.

Even if it doesn’t work out for Taylor with the Chiefs, at least he’ll be able to say that for one summer, he was living his dream.
