New York Mets should thank Jerry Seinfeld for their World Series berth

MLB, New York Mets

The Mets punched their ticket to the World Series with an 8-3 NLCS sweep of the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night, setting Mets fans into a state of pure euphoria. Noted fan Jerry Seinfeld also indulged in the celebration on Instagram:

"The shoes are going to Cooperstown!"

Wait, what?

Seinfeld's shoes? Well, these are the kicks in question:

His custom orange and blue Nike Shox were "magical" this season as the Mets (90-72) clinched the NL East crown and their first postseason berth since 2006.

Seinfeld continued to tout his lucky shoes as the Mets topped the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games in the NLDS.

We can say with almost absolute certainty that Mets fans everywhere are hoping Seinfeld never takes those shoes off -- at least not for the next two weeks or so.

And if New York does win the pennant, Cooperstown may need to open up a wing not only for Seinfeld's shoes, but for all of the Mets' celebrity superfans:
