NEW ORLEANS -- Veteran wide receiver Brandon Gibson, who is making a charge for a roster spot with the New England Patriots, injured his knee late in Saturday's 26-24 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Gibson had a notable limp as he walked through the locker room Saturday after undergoing preliminary X-rays on his knee.

"It's part of football and nothing I can really do. I'm glad the team got the win," the soft-spoken Gibson said.

Asked if his sense is that he'll be OK, Gibson said, "Pray for the best; that's all you can really do."

Gibson sustained the injury on a 3-yard reception with 4:04 remaining in the game in which he was tackled by cornerback Travis Manning. He hobbled off the field under his own power, but never returned. He was one of the last players to leave the locker room Saturday.

Gibson led the team with eight receptions for 68 yards in Saturday's win over the Saints. With receiver Brian Tyms having sustained a foot injury that could threaten his season, it opened the door for Gibson to possibly gain the inside track for a No. 4 or 5 spot on the depth chart, but the knee injury could throw a wrench into those plans.
