LATROBE, Pa. -- Sorry, RG3, but we've got another "best in the NFL" claim.

This one comes from Steelers wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, who is crowning Le'Veon Bell this preseason.

"I think we have the best running back in the game," said Heyward-Bey, who also believes Antonio Brown is the best receiver.

What separates Bell in Heyward-Bey's mind, and what makes him unique in the eyes of many, is his ability as a receiver and running back. Bell's 83 receptions from a year ago will be difficult to match after Bell can play a maximum of 14 games due to suspension. For perspective: In the two seasons before Bell arrived after the 2013 draft, the Steelers' tailback committee combined for 112 receptions.

But make no mistake, even with the suspension Bell's reception total will be high.

His receiving prowess has been obvious in camp. One-on-ones with linebackers are almost unfair.

Quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner, who said coaches remind young receivers to run routes like Bell does, explains Bell's technique and ability well:

"He runs like a wide receiver in route running, very natural, very pluck, good hands, gets friendly to the ball, not drifting away from you or backing up. Ben (Roethlisberger) eventually came to the conclusion that I love that dude, I've got to use him."

Bell admits he's always had natural ability to catch the ball but had to hone his technique over the years. He used to start running before securing the ball, he said, resulting in a few drops at Michigan State. Learning the nuances of Todd Haley's offense before touching the field helped him calm down and anticipate the play.

Even if Bell's not open all the way, Roethlisberger "throws me open," he says.

"Now I can make moves and I'm not thinking when I touch the ball," Bell told ESPN recently. "It happens naturally, because I practice at it so much."

Bell might not catch 83 passes, but he's too difficult a cover to have a drought.
