RG III inconsistent in Redskins' first practice, just like the other QBs

RICHMOND, Va. -- A few quick observations on the quarterbacks, with a heavy focus on Robert Griffin III. Considering he's the starter, that's how it should be.

  • Nobody really stood out and Griffin was inconsistent during the full-team work. He had to run on two bootlegs -- I know on one that the receiver wasn’t open. But Griffin was up-and-down with his throws, sometimes leaning a little back and throwing high to his target.

  • He did connect with DeSean Jackson on one deep out; Jackson ran a nice route to get open. Griffin forced one pass to tight end Jordan Reed -- a bullet into traffic that linebacker Keenan Robinson tipped into the air. Not sure how it wasn’t intercepted as a few players were around the ball, but it fell to the ground.

  • On another 11-on-11 series, Griffin got off to a good start with a three-step, plant and throw out to the right to Pierre Garcon. His next pass, a dump-off to the right to Alfred Morris, was incomplete, and then on the next play, Griffin threw off his back foot and the pass was high. He ended it with the out route to Jackson.

  • During a third-down drill, Griffin completed a pass to Morris, who made a nice grab reaching to his left. Griffin kept it away from the defender; a nice pass. But his next ball was too low to Andre Roberts on the right side. It wasn’t a long throw.

  • Griffin did look relaxed on the field -- I even saw him give Kirk Cousins a high-five after Cousins had finished a good series.

  • It's not as if the other quarterbacks looked sharper than Griffin. Cousins had a two-play sequence that showed what he could do -- and what he still must correct. On the first, he connected with tight end Je'Ron Hamm down the seam -- safety Trenton Robinson dove but couldn't stop the pass. But, on the next play with the pocket collapsing, Robinson intercepted him. Not sure what Cousins was doing on the throw, but the nearest target was tight end Jordan Reed running down the left side -- he was well-covered by Jeron Johnson. Cousins threw the ball about 10 yards inside and Robinson was the only one around.
