*2014 award winner

The NCFAA announced earlier today that the NCFAA Contributions to College Football Award will be presented to Barry Switzer.  Switzer, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, has been nicknamed the “King” in Oklahoma because of a 16-year run as head football coach from 1973-88 in which the Sooners claimed three national titles and won or tied for 12 Big Eight Conference championships. Switzer rode the Wishbone offense to 10 New Year’s Day Bowl games and winning records in every season he coached in Norman. While Switzer is renowned for his coaching and recruiting prowess, his community work outside of football in the Oklahoma City-Norman area is equally impressive. Among his many charity efforts, he is an ardent supporter of Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and its far-reaching endeavors; for 40-plus years he has supported Special Olympics of Oklahoma and worked with kids with intellectual disabilities; he has been a strong proponent of “Swing for Sight”, a golf tournament that supports the visually impaired and blind. He lends his name and participates in many other charity events and community fund-raisers.

Concordia University-St. Paul defensive lineman Hank Goff will be awarded the Disney Spirit Award by Disney Sports’ Executive Faron Kelley. The award is given annually to college football’s most inspirational figure or team in college football.  Goff will be recognized for using football to overcome post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from an Afghanistan combat tour of duty with the U.S. Marines. Goff, 28, has been an inspirational figure to his teammates, and currently works with fellow military veterans struggling to adjust to life after war.

The National Football Foundation’s William V. Campbell Trophy (Academic Success) winner, the Walter Camp All-America Team and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® captain will also be recognized during the show.  The 17 finalists for the National Football Foundation’s Campbell Trophy were announced on Oct. 29.  For 24 years, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has recognized college football players from across the country who exemplify a superior commitment to community service and volunteerism.

During The Red Carpet Special at The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPNU at 6 p.m., the John Mackey Award (Outstanding Tight End), the Rimington Award (Outstanding Center) and the Wuerffel Trophy (Community Service) will be recognizedHunter Henry (Arkansas, Jr.), Austin Hooper (Stanford, Jr.) and Jordan Leggett (Clemson, Jr.) are finalists for the John Mackey Award; Ty Darlington (Oklahoma, Sr.), Landon Foster (Kentucky, Sr.) and Nate Sudfeld (Indiana, Sr.) are finalists for the Wuerffel Trophy; and Jack Allen (Michigan St., Sr.), Austin Blythe (Iowa, Sr.) and Ryan Kelly (Alabama, Sr.) were named the Rimington Award finalists earlier today.
