Deal agreed for Jackson Martinez to join AC Milan, Porto president says

Jackson Martinez has agreed to play for AC Milan as Porto will accept a transfer fee of €35 million, the Portuguese club's president confirmed on Friday.

Earlier this week, Milan general manager Adriano Galliani flew out to Portugal to try to negotiate a deal with the Colombian striker, and Porto's Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa said a deal was now in place.

"Jackson Martinez has chosen Milan," Da Costa told Porto Canal. "I want him to be happy."

Da Costa said Martinez informed the club after the season that he would be leaving.

The player's agent, Luiz Enrique Pompeo, had said his client was choosing between AC Milan and "another offer from a top club," but Da Costa confirmed that the 28-year-old had made up his mind.

"Before going on vacation, Jackson announced he wanted to leave," Da Costa said. "The €35m clause is not up for debate and must be paid. I learned just now that Jackson has chosen Milan.

"This is what he wants, the destination is irrelevant as far as I am concerned. I want him to be happy."

Earlier, Pompeo said he had been working on a four-year deal with Galliani.

Martinez had also been linked with Arsenal and Valencia.

"He has top physical strengths. Hugely efficient, he is the kind of player who can make room for himself in the box," Wenger said in February.

"He could play in the Premier League because he has the body to make the difference. He uses it in a very intelligent way. He has a very short back lift and he's a very good finisher. He's on the list of many clubs, you know that."
