As Saturday’s prize fight nears, Floyd Mayweather’s history of domestic violence has garnered more and more discussion. Yet, while other professional leagues are cracking down on athletes who have been accused of violence against women, boxing has all but ignored Mayweather’s criminal past.

Pitchers’ Head Protection

On Tuesday night, the Diamondbacks’ Archie Bradley became the 13th active pitcher and third in the last six weeks to get hit in the head by a line drive. MLB has tested various padded caps for pitchers and last year approved one that only Alex Torres chose to wear — he’s now using a 2015 model with the padding on the outside. Two other companies offer padding that MLB has not tested, but a couple of current pitchers wear. Steve Delsohn examines the latest in safety headwear for pitchers and why acceptance is elusive.
