Spring breakout player: Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Spring practice is over in the Big Ten, and we’re in review mode with a look back at one player from each team who experienced a breakout spring. Our choices appear set to handle an increased role next season.

Next on the list is Rutgers.

Spring breakout player: WR Carlton Agudosi

Agudosi has enjoyed big moments in practice before this spring. Never, though, has it carried over to consistent play in games. In two seasons, he has caught just 10 passes.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound junior out of Somerset, New Jersey, looks ready to make a difference when it matters. He took a step in the right direction this spring with a solid showing from start to finish.

Agudosi caught four passes for 96 yards in Rutgers’ major scrimmage midway through the spring and completed drills with four receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns under the lights on April 24 in the spring game.

As the biggest receiver on the Rutgers' roster, Agudosi’s talent is evident. He provides a large target and appeared to form a nice chemistry during the spring with Chris Laviano, who exited April with an edge over Hayden Rettig in the quarterback competition.

Rutgers must replace productive tight end Tyler Kroft and big-play wideout Andrew Turzilli. Agudosi appears equipped for the job. He has added size and improved his speed since last season. And his emergence would prevent opponents from focusing entirely on All-Big Ten receiver Leonte Carroo, who topped 1,000 receiving yards last season and caught 10 touchdown passes.
