Justin Anderson out for Saturday

Men's College Basketball, Virginia Cavaliers

Virginia junior Justin Anderson will miss the Cavaliers' game against No. 16 Louisville on Saturday after undergoing an appendectomy on Thursday, the school announced.

"It wasn't a ruptured appendix and they got it early, so that's good news," Cavs coach Tony Bennett told ESPN.com. "But it's way too early to give a timetable. It depends on how he responds. The next few days will determine how long he misses."

Anderson has missed the past seven games with a broken finger on his shooting hand but hoped he could return to the lineup against the Cardinals.

Instead, his status for next week's ACC tournament is to be determined.

"It's such a tough break for him," Bennett said. "There was a chance he was going to come back on Saturday. We just have to keep doing what we're doing and finding ways."

No. 2 Virginia's second-leading scorer, Anderson was averaging 13.4 points per game before the finger injury.

The Cavaliers (28-1) have not lost since his injury on Feb. 7 and last week clinched their second consecutive ACC regular-season title. Junior Evan Nolte, who has started in Anderson's place, is averaging 6.3 points per game.
