LaAdrian Waddle likely out for Lions

NFL, Detroit Lions

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions haven't officially ruled out right tackle LaAdrian Waddle for the season, but coach Jim Caldwell said Wednesday he doesn't expect him to play against the Chicago Bears this week.

"I don't anticipate him being able to play this week," Caldwell said. "And so we'll announce as time goes on the rest of it."

Waddle injured his left knee during the third quarter of Detroit's 16-14 win over Minnesota on Sunday when Vikings defensive lineman Everson Griffen rolled into his leg. Waddle fell to the ground and was immediately in pain, being attended to by trainers and had teammates and even Caldwell come onto the field to check on him.

The Lions will replace Waddle in the starting lineup with undrafted rookie free agent Cornelius Lucas. The 6-foot-8 Kansas State product started one game at left tackle -- against the Bears on Thanksgiving -- when Riley Reiff was out due to injury.

He has often come into replace Waddle and Reiff when they have been injured this year.
