Jose Bautista: 'No regrets' about watching HR leave park

TORONTO -- Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista drew the ire of several Baltimore Orioles players by standing and admiring the 250th home run of his career Tuesday night.

Orioles rookie reliever Jason Garcia narrowly missed plunking Bautista in the seventh inning with a 94 mph fastball, and the Blue Jays veteran responded three pitches later by depositing the ball beyond the left-field wall. He stopped to admire the shot before rounding the bases.

That didn't go unnoticed, and Orioles outfielder Adam Jones shouted at Bautista as he left the field.

"It's not his first, it's not a walk-off, it's in the seventh inning," Jones said after the game. "Let's not walk halfway down the line. Respect the game. I know he does, but at that moment right there he didn't, and when it happens against my team, I'm going to take offense to it."

Bautista defended his actions.

"You throw at me, I'm not going to forget, and if I get you right after, I'm going to enjoy it," he said. "And I did. I have no regrets about it."

Bautista's shot knocked in the Blue Jays' final two runs in the 13-6 win and was the talk of both locker rooms.

"It's just wrong," the Orioles' Ryan Flaherty said. "It's not him in particular, but he's one of the game's best players and it's just sad that's the way he chooses to play the game."

Bautista shrugged off the criticism.

"I'm an emotional player and I play with a lot of passion," he said.
