Detroit Lions receiver Golden Tate headed to Pro Bowl

The Detroit Lions will have wide receiver representation in next Sunday's Pro Bowl after all.

Golden Tate, who led the Lions in yards and catches this season and was the NFL's leader in yards after catch, tweeted Sunday afternoon that he would be headed to the annual All-Star game for the first time.

Tate signed with Detroit in free agency prior to last season. He caught 99 passes for 1,331 yards and four touchdowns -- the receptions and yards representing career highs. He was fifth in the league in catches, seventh in yards and had 696 yards after the catch.

Tate had five 100-yard games this season and had two of the biggest plays of the season for the Lions -- touchdown catches against New Orleans and Atlanta that spurred come-from-behind wins.

He was also the major catalyst for Detroit's offense during the three games Calvin Johnson missed due to injury, helping the Lions go 3-0 in that stretch.

The Lions now have two players in the Pro Bowl this season as Tate will join safety Glover Quin. Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and Johnson had also been selected for the game, but pulled out due to injury.

There's a good chance quarterback Matthew Stafford will also make his first Pro Bowl after Denver quarterback Peyton Manning pulled out of the game Sunday, according to the Denver Post. Stafford is still an alternate for the game.
