Morning Roar: A quick look at Detroit's salary cap

The Detroit Lions haven't made many moves during the new league year and despite that, the franchise doesn't have a ton of salary-cap room left.

Of course, there aren't a ton of big-ticket players left for a splashy signing anyway.

According to NFLPA records, Detroit has $5.46 million in cap space after the signing of some of their own free agents and former New Orleans defensive tackle Tyrunn Walker, along with the acquisition of Haloti Ngata.

Including leaving money for the rookie class out of the draft, this leaves Detroit with between $1 million and $1.5 million to make any other free-agent moves. Of course, the Lions can create more room by extending the contract of Ngata or restructuring one of their long-term deals, perhaps of quarterback Matthew Stafford.

While Ngata has said he is open to an extension, there has been no indication from either the Lions or Ngata that those talks have started or will occur. Detroit's front office has not taken questions from the media since the start of the new league year.

And now, a look around the Interwebs in search of Lions and other news:
