Ray Lewis to be honored by Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens will put two-time Defensive Player of the Year Ray Lewis in their Ring of Honor on the same Sunday that his longtime teammate Ed Reed returns to Baltimore with the Houston Texans on Sept. 22.

Lewis, 38, will become the sixth member of the Ravens organization in the team's Ring of Honor, joining former owner Art Modell, running back Jamal Lewis, kicker Matt Stover, tackle Jonathan Ogden, linebacker Peter Boulware and defensive end Michael McCrary.

The Ravens also plan to erect a statue of Lewis outside M&T Bank Stadium, but it will not be finished by the Week 3 game.

Reed, who is recovering from offseason hip surgery, has said he hopes to be ready to play by Week 1. He signed a three-year contract with the Texans this offseason after spending 11 seasons with the Ravens.

Reed, 34, also a former Defensive Player of the Year, is the Ravens' franchise leader in interceptions (61) and passes defensed (137).

Lewis, now an ESPN NFL analyst, helped the Ravens win two Super Bowl titles during his career and was selected to 12 Pro Bowls, fifth on the all-time list and most by a linebacker. He retired as the Ravens' franchise leader in several categories, including tackles (2,643), fumble recoveries (31) and games played (228).
