IRVING, Texas -- Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Bill Callahan said Tuesday he will call plays for the Dallas Cowboys in 2013, but head coach Jason Garrett, who has handled those duties since 2007, wouldn't confirm anything.
Owner Jerry Jones created a stir Tuesday when he told reporters a decision on the play caller had been made weeks ago and to watch practice to give them any hints about who it may be.

"Well, I'm not assuming anything," Jones said earlier Tuesday when asked if it's safe to assume Callahan would be calling the plays. "I'm just saying, I don't want to say. But the big deal is if you been looking at practice you can get a pretty good idea of how it's going there and you see Bill very involved in what we're doing out there."
Callahan said the last time he called plays he was the head coach at Nebraska.
"I'm flattered and as I said this a long time ago when we were visiting in January and February, everybody has a stake in this," Callahan said.
"It's a compliment to our staff and it tells you the way our guys work on the offensive side of the ball. It's been productive all the way around. I'm really encouraged, I'm honored and just do the best job for our fans and our team."
Garrett, however, wouldn't confirm who the play caller is. The Cowboys coach said there is no real advantage to revealing the decision in early June. He did say he's on board with every decision made by the organization, however.
"There is no real advantage for us to reveal whose calling the plays and how we're going to do it in early June," Garrett said. "It's just the way I feel about it. We have scouts who advance games when we go watch other teams play and we try to figure out how they're calling plays, offensively, defensively and the kicking game.
"We have a plan in place and we've had a plan in place for a long, long time and I don't want to get into that plan much further than I already have."
Jones and Garrett praised Callahan's abilities to call plays. Garrett has called the plays since 2007, when he was the Cowboys' offensive coordinator. He became Dallas' head coach in 2010 but still held on to the play-calling duties.
In the last three weeks, during the organized team activities, Callahan was giving the play calls to the quarterbacks while Garrett stood off to the side during 11-on-11 drills.
When the Cowboys split up in 7-on-7 drills, quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson would give play calls to the quarterbacks while Callahan worked with the offensive line.
Given the confusion over who will be calling the Cowboys' plays, Garrett was asked if he and Jones have different ways of releasing information.
"I think you can draw your own conclusions," Garrett said while smiling.
Last season, the Cowboys finished sixth in total offense at 374.6 yards per game, but just 31st as a rushing offense (79.1 yards per game).
