Morning Roar: Looking at the Detroit Lions' defensive line stats in 2014

Over last week and this week, we'll be reviewing each position group for the Detroit Lions in multiple ways. We'll continue with the defensive line Monday.

Every morning as part of the Roar, we'll have a quick statistical breakdown of that position group.

The defensive line as a whole: The Lions were dominant on the line throughout the season. The line became the anchor of a defensive front that had the best run defense in the league, holding teams to 69.31 yards per game and 3.17 yards per carry. As a unit, they combined for 246 tackles, 38 sacks, and seven pass breakups this season.

The defensive linemen as individuals:

Ndamukong Suh: He played 850 snaps this season, recording 56 tackles, 10.5 sacks and two pass breakups. According to Pro Football Focus, he had 37 quarterback hurries and 12 quarterback hits. He had eight penalties against him, with seven of them counting for 42 yards.

Ezekiel Ansah: In 664 snaps, he had 51 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles. According to PFF, he had 20 quarterback hits and 34 quarterback hurries. He was penalized four times for 30 yards this season.

C.J. Mosley: He played 498 snaps with 27 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. PFF credited him with four quarterback hits and seven hurries. He committed two penalties -- only one accepted -- for one yard.

Nick Fairley: He played 268 snaps before a knee injury essentially ended his season, recording 14 tackles with one sack and a forced fumble. PFF had him with three quarterback hits and 17 hurries. He had five penalties for 35 yards.

Jason Jones: In 650 snaps, he had 25 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, and two pass breakups. He hit quarterbacks 11 times and hurried them 22 times according to PFF. He committed six penalties -- five accepted -- for 23 yards.

George Johnson: He played 487 snaps with 26 tackles, six sacks, a fumble recovery, and pass breakup. He had five quarterback hits and 27 hurries according to PFF. He committed one penalty this season for 10 yards.

Darryl Tapp: Tapp played 273 snaps, recording 19 tackles, a sack, a fumble forced, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup. Tapp had eight quarterback hits and nine hurries this season according to PFF. He committed one penalty for five yards.

Devin Taylor: He played 233 snaps, recording 16 tackles with a sack, two hits, and seven hurries of quarterbacks, according to PFF. He committed two penalties for 20 yards.

Andre Fluellen: He signed with the Lions after Fairley's injury and played 171 snaps, recording 10 tackles with two sacks and a fumble recovery. He had two quarterback hits and seven hurries according to PFF. He committed one penalty for five yards.

Caraun Reid: He played 102 snaps in 12 games, recording two tackles and breaking up a pass. PFF had him with three quarterback hurries.

Larry Webster: The rookie did not play a defensive snap this season.
