Some numbers behind Detroit's 34-24 win

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions kicked off their season with a come-from-behind 34-24 win against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, one which happened after a sloppy first half where miscues reigned.

In the second half, though, the Lions looked more like the team they have hoped they would be. The offense was sparked by new running back Reggie Bush. The defensive line was dominant, and even though this was in the first half, the Lions’ linebackers picked off two passes.

Here’s a quick look at some of the numbers which contributed to the win, and others that are just interesting:

8: Games Detroit lost to end last season, a streak which was stopped Sunday.

37: Calvin Johnson’s yardage total. It is the fewest yards the receiver has had at home since he had 29 yards on three catches on Dec. 11, 2011 -- also against Minnesota.

8: Screen passes attempted by Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford -- more than he has attempted in any game the past four seasons. He completed six of those screens, three to Bush, including his 78-yard touchdown.

11: Lions players who played all of their available snaps (Six on offense: left guard Rob Sims, left tackle Riley Reiff, right guard Larry Warford, center Dominic Raiola, Johnson and Stafford. Five on defense: linebackers Stephen Tulloch and DeAndre Levy, cornerback Chris Houston, free safety Louis Delmas, and strong safety Glover Quin).

5: Offensive plays for Detroit longer than 20 yards. The Lions’ defense allowed six plays of 20 yards or more.

4.3: Yards per carry for Bush, who said he wanted to have at least four yards per rush.

3: Targets -- and catches -- for rookie tight end Joseph Fauria, who had 27 yards and a touchdown.

57.4: Stafford’s QBR, 18th in the NFL entering Monday night. (ESPN’s QBR is explained here, but it is a rating which combines context of what throws mean in terms of helping his team win). He sits between Tom Brady (17th with a 59.4 QBR) and Sam Bradford (19th with a 50.4 QBR).
