PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- In desperate need of clearing several spots, the Mets have put out word to other teams that they are interested in moving non-core prospects on the 40-man roster.
Among those available via trade: Gonzalez Germen, Darin Gorski, Reese Havens, Juan Lagares, Cesar Puello, Elvin Ramirez and Hansel Robles.
Assuming Omar Quintanilla takes the 40-man roster spot vacated by Brandon Hicks, the Mets still would need to clear at least four 40-man spots: for Aaron Laffey, Marlon Byrd, LaTroy Hawkins and Scott Atchison.
If Mets officials are unable to trade prospects on the 40-man roster for other teams' farmhands not on the 40, they will have to start placing them through waivers at the end of the week to clear spots. A handful likely would clear, including Havens.
