Series begins November 16; Additional exclusive content on espnW.com

espnW will produce a three-episode documentary series for ESPN2 profiling University of Connecticut women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma beginning Sunday, Nov. 16, when espnW Presents: The Geno Auriemma Project, debuts at 10:30 p.m. ET.

The series will offer an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at Auriemma via interviews with the coach and the important people around him.  Unprecedented access to his friends, family, colleagues and players was granted.

“The collaboration with espnW and ESPN is another great avenue to showcase the UConn women’s basketball program on a national level,” said Auriemma. “The inside look – filming in my old neighborhood, talking with players and my peers, as well as exploring the current state of the team – gives viewers a unique perspective on our program.”

Each half-hour show will air on key dates of the women’s college basketball season, with the first episode premiering Sunday, Nov. 16, 24 hours prior to the College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon Presented by Dish when Connecticut faces Stanford (9 p.m., ESPN2). The second episode will air on Big Monday Presented by Verizon, following the potential No. 1 Connecticut vs. No. 2 South Carolina tilt on February 9. The third and final installment will air after the conclusion of the NCAA Championship on Friday, April 10.

Episode 1 will provide an in-depth examination of Auriemma through the lens of his friends and family from the Norristown, Pa., neighborhood where he grew up just outside of Philadelphia, as well as his colleagues, fellow coaches and team.

Episode 2 will feature a detailed look at Auriemma’s current roster and a look back at the Connecticut-Tennessee matchup that vaulted women’s college basketball into the national spotlight as the 20th anniversary of the 1995 NCAA National Championship title game between the two teams approaches.

Episode 3 will focus on the Huskies’ streak since winning back-to-back national titles in 2013 and 2014 and the win streak as it stands today, as well Auriemma’s career win total, which is nearing the 900-win mark.

espnW.com will have exclusive related content, including 10, two- to four-minute features on Auriemma and the team, as well as 10, 30-second vignettes. Select vignettes will air during game and studio telecasts throughout the season. espnW.com writer Kate Fagan will have an oral history  that will accompany the series. Excerpts from each episode will also be available on espnW.com.
